I love setting up wedding cakes in The City, and if you're looking for a spectacular and elegant London wedding venue if you can't get much better than 1 Lombard Street located near Bank tube station.
This modern restaurant is one of London's top brasseries, housed in a grade 2 neo classical building with a dazzling domed ceiling by Pietro Agostini. 1 Lombard Street creates a diverse and dynamic wedding experience, just like London itself. Traditional yet innovative, sophisticated yet relaxed, the brasserie embodies London’s spirit – a city steeped in history but constantly evolving.
The couple getting married, Anne and Daniel, are lawyers and work in the City, so 1 Lombard Street was a natural choice for them.
Having the venue decorated with gorgeous florals was very important for Anne. She chose to have silk flowers rather than fresh, which were supplied by Fleur De La Couture . You can read my blog post about choosing silk over fresh flowers here
As you can see, the floral arrangements created are colourful, bold and absolutely stunning. It's impossible to tell the difference between using silk flowers and fresh flowers.
When it came to the choice of wedding cake, Anne wanted a modern abstract buttercream two tier wedding cake design with a minimalist vibe to it. The wedding cakes I design always have a clean and precise blank canvas base with smooth sides and sharp edges which gives the wedding cake an elegant and luxurious feel.
To compliment the stunning colourful flower arrangments, I applied textured palette knife strokes to the wedding cake to give it a fresh floral look. Burgundy buttercream splattering provided a minimal splash of colouring to give the wedding cake a modern abstract art look. Subtle flecks of edible gold leaf added an additional sparkle and shimmer perfect for a wedding.
The wedding cake was topped off with a moulded wafer paper sail. which helps elevate the cake and provided an additional level of elegance and height.
Rather than having flowers placed on the cake, the floral crown cake stand is a fun and unsual way to incorporate the wedding flowers into the design of the cake.
As you know, the wedding cakes I design not only look stunning, but also taste delicious. For the flavours of the cake, Anne and Dan chose a rich chocolate cake with a chocolate hazelnut praline filling. For the top, the flavour was pistachio and cardamom cake with pistachio praline, mango curd and fresh mango filling. For more information on the flavours that I make, have a look at the flavours page on my website here
I think you'll agree that 1 Lombard Street looks stunning and makes a perfect city wedding venue, especially when decorated out with the gorgeous colourful burgundy, pink and peach silk flower arrangements.
